About Hermiston Fire & Emergancy Services - EMS Division
Hermiston Fire & Emergency Services (HFES) provides Advanced Life Support (ALS) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to over 500 square miles in West Umatilla County, Oregon. Besides serving the citizens of Hermiston, HFES provides EMS, in conjunction with their own Quick Response teams (QRT), to the cities of Stanfield and Echo, Oregon.
Approximately 75% of all incidents that Hermiston Fire & Emergency Services responds to are calls for EMS. Because medical emergencies are often time-critical, it is important that EMS medic units arrive as quickly as possible. Failure to do so can make the difference between life and death or permanent disability.
In recent years, fire departments have evolved into multi-functional organizations; no longer providing fire protection only, but a wide variety of services. EMS has been a major part of this evolution. HFES responds to fires involving everything from grass and brush, cars to buildings; hazardous materials incidents as part of the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office regional haz-mat team #10, motor vehicle accidents for rescue & EMS, and many other incident types.
All career firefighters in the department are trained at the level of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)-PARAMEDIC, the most advanced level of EMT. All 5 HFES ambulances (Medic Units) are stocked at the ALS level and staffed by at least one paramedic when responding to 911 calls for service.
You are invited to come down and talk with one of our Paramedic firefighters to learn more about what we do and see the equipment we use.
