The Fire Marshal currently oversees Fire Prevention at HFES and is a member of the Fire Command Staff. The Fire Marshal is a local resource for all fire-code related issues as dictated by the State of Oregon Fire Marshal’s Office and National Fire Codes.
The Fire Marshal ensures current fire codes are applied to the core function areas of New Construction, Inspections, Investigations and Public Education within the HFES fire district. Activities include ensuring appropriate access, and that water supplies and safety features such as alarm and suppression systems are available for new construction projects. Existing buildings are regularly inspected in an effort to maintain fire safety. The inspections are performed by the Fire Marshal or crews of HFES firefighter/paramedics.
Fire investigations are conducted to supply data to national and state code councils in an effort to produce valuable data used in preventing recurring fires, and to identify and punish willful fire offenders. Public education activities are utilized to identify and address human behavior elements in fire safety.
